NEW TICKET VENDING MACHINES GENERATION: "AI READY"
DRIVERS
In proposing this ticket vending machine (TVM) we focused on 3 users: Travellers, Operators and Maintainers. At the same time we wanted to design a TVM which its Aesthetics, UX & UI, and Functionalities can result attractive, inviting, recognizable, fitting in a rail architectural environment, timeless (2035), end-User friendly, easy to maintain, easy to operate, ready to artificial intelligence (AI).
FREEDOM TO CHOOSE
End- Users
We propose a TVM which provides multiple ways for a traveller to purchase a ticket, having in mind at the same time operation costs. Therefore we propose a TVM capable to accept cash (coins and bank notes), bank cards (contact and contactless) and smartphones. The TVM will be able, thanks to coin and bill note recycling modules, to provide a change in cash regardless the denominations of Euro used by the end-user. From the operation side, the recycling modules will help to contain costs associated to the cash management and cash in transit. In addition we believe that TVM can be combined with the good practice of the high usage of smartphones nowadays. In this scenario traveller can initiate the purchase of a ticket by using the OBB mobile application and finalize it, with the payment, at a TVM equipped of a QR Code reader. This in the case for some reason traveller does not want or cannot finalize the purchase using a mobile payment application.
Operator
The TVM may be proposed with a sales application which will be integrated with OBB ticketing central system, or leave the freedom to OBB to develop and exploit its own sales application. In this last case a Software Development Kit (SDK) will be provided together with the TVM, which will facilitate developments and integrations. In both cases OBB may monitor in real-time the status of the TVM, both hardware and software.
USER FRIENDLY
We are able to deliver a Sales Application which is the result of a deep and accurate study/analyses of the User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI). UX will be carried out by in field interviews, definition of “persona” and of customer journey. UX will ended it up with a wireframe design (“click through mock-up”), tests and finalization. An UI will be then designed by defining the “look and feel” and all graphic screens. Ultimately the traveler has to experience this purchase process as intuitive, quick, seamless providing as much as possible same daily user experience of a Smartphone and/or Tablet.
AI READY
From the hardware perspective we propose a TVM which will have a 27” display, completely autonomous from the touch screen display used for purchasing a ticket. The right positioning of this display is a good combination for different purposes. It can be used for Digital Signage, Real Time Passenger information System (RTPI) and Customer Service/Assistance (“Digital Human Assistant”). The TVM thanks to this display and other different sensors is “ready to AI".

Mehrwert
- Second Large Display (Digital Signage, Real Time Passenger Information, Human Digital Assistant).
- Electric Lock (no need of physical keys) for opening the TVM by the Maintainer.
- All Electronic components are isolated from the floor. In fact all electronic components are located inner the TVM above the pedestal, which means isolated 450 cm from the floor. This is a precaution against humidity, caused by snow accumulation or water raising from the floor due to heavy rain.
