DroneMatrix: Autonomous Drone-in-a-Box for Motorway Incident Response
DroneMatrix proposes a fully autonomous drone-in-a-box system for rapid motorway incident management and traffic monitoring.
The solution consists of strategically deployed drone stations along motorway infrastructure, centrally operated via the ARWS (Autonomous Remote Web-based System). Each unit enables immediate autonomous launch within minutes of incident detection, providing real-time aerial situational awareness.
The system delivers high-quality visual data using a 4K camera with 20x optical zoom and thermal imaging, enabling detailed assessment in all lighting conditions. This supports faster and more informed decision making by operators and emergency services.
Live video is streamed to a secure web portal (or local VMS such as Milestone), allowing authorized users to access the feed remotely. Multiple stakeholders can view the situation simultaneously, and designated users can control the payload (camera movement and zoom) without affecting flight operations. The pilot remains fully in control of the drone at all times.
Safety is a core design principle. The system includes:
Parachute recovery system
Triple redundancy on critical sensors
Automated fail-safe procedures
Geofencing and airspace awareness
Collision avoidance
Continuous system health monitoring
The system is designed for operations over critical infrastructure and near active traffic.
It operates in harsh conditions including rain, low temperatures, and high winds, with IP66 protection ensuring reliability.
The system provides up to 60 minutes flight time in optimal conditions. Typical operational endurance is around 45 minutes.
Mission availability is ensured through rapid redeployment, automated relaunch, and multi-unit coverage along motorway corridors.
Charging time is approximately 20 minutes from empty to full, enabling high availability.
The system supports remote operations from centralized control centers, enabling fast response and scalable deployment across large networks.
DroneMatrix operates under a Light UAS Operator Certificate, enabling accelerated BVLOS operations.
The system is fully developed and manufactured in Europe, aligned with sovereignty requirements.
The solution can be rapidly deployed in a Proof of Concept and scaled nationwide.
