Wireless vibrations sensors made for rail - detection of train

We provide structural monitoring for construction, mining, infrastruction and rail monitoring. In the last 10 years we have around 300.000 sensors installed all over the world.

Last year we developed a wireless (LoRa based) tiltmeter for monitoring tilt of rail tracks - with an additional functionality of continuous monitoring of vibration. The main purpose of this functionality is to measure rail track tilt - after or during a train passage. It has been thoroughly tested on a rail track and detection of trains compared to the time schedule.

In the Challenge application the tilt measurement is not needed - but the function of detecting train passage with vibration is perfect for what is needed. The only thing we would need to adjust is that every time the train is detected an immediate message would be sent from sensor to Gateway - and from there to OBBs SCADA system.

Our solution is very rugged (aluminium box) with IP65 rating and with the one battery installed the sensor can detect trains (depending on frequency) between 3-6 years.

Sensors send information to a central Gateway - which is in turn connected through a SIM card to a mobile network or with a cable to LAN. I do believe this could be an easy to install and maintain solution for confirmation of approaching train.

It has been tested in many of the worlds regions, conditions and applications and it is very reliable. That is something very important with such an application.
The sensors could even be connected to a LoRaWAN network provided by the state - instead of Gateway provided by us.
